I need visual stimuli to motivate me during my weight loss journey.
For instance, seeing somebody of the same ethnicity or somebody whose body type I could emulate really gets me going.
And I can not find enough motivators on t.v.
Because there just isn't that many 'different body types' on T.V. or in the magazines.
In the beginning, when I felt depleted of motivation, I used to look through my vanity fairs but seriously, every model on it is shockingly divested of curves & is of the extremely pale variety, so no matter how much I imagine, i can't quite picture my dark, big bootied, curvy body ever even closely resembling it.
Which is why this article intrigued me.
I love that it talks about how even the white race is slotted into the 'has to be neutral as possible' a la Gwyneth Paltrow category (who I totally suspect has some wasting eating disorder, what with her millionth diet). I mean, where are the redheads? where are the brunettes? where are the White Americans with distinct features who are not all pale & featureless as Gwyneth ?

Anyhoo, this is partly the reason that I have switched to trashy celeb mags & the internet for motivating pics when I feel I couldn't possibly go on, because in there, I can atleast find the used to be of curvy persuasion Eve Mendes or the Kim K or an America Ferrera or a Nandita Das or even a Rani Mukherjee

I stopped reading women's magazines for the same reason. After a while, I felt like I was picking up the same magazine over and over again, even though they had different dates on them. All the people looked the same - and even though I'm a white, white girl with mouse blonde hair and blue eyes - I sure don't look like any of THOSE people. I have curves too and I like them. Those people look like clothes hangers with ribcages - not a look I'd want to aspire to anyway!

I love America Ferrera. She has curves and shows them. She doesn't mind going out and about in regular clothes. Her personal life isn't splashed all over the place. Heck, I didn't even know who Britany Spears WAS and I knew way too much about her and her life. I like that America is happy with who she is and doesn't mind if we know it without knowing too much.

Oops. A little off track there. Find your inspiration wherever you need to - having it is what matters!

This reminds me of an episode of Oprah (I know, I know, Oprah? but it was a really good show... ) I saw years ago that I have never forgotten about. A study showed that African-American women had much higher self-esteem and more confidence than the Caucasians. Oprah joked that it was because of Barbie. She said, "As a little girl I knew I'd never look like that, so I didn't obsess about it!" Whereas white women feel they aren't thin enough, stacked enough, long-legged enough, etc.

I love the new look of your blog, by the way!
