Docs & hearts
11 am Doctor's Apt:
I am sitting in waiting room, looking through Reader's Digest and either RD's word power has been dumbed down or I just have that great a vocabulary
Muslin, Trek, Exorcise - surely those are adult vocabulary
Cute medical student, v. J.D in Scrubish interrupts thoughts on words and takes me in to fill chart about recent fainting spell.
Smoke?
No.
Medication?
No.
Drink?
Socially.
Illicit drugs?
Hopefully out of system.
Enter senior doc.
"So young lady, what have we got here? Do you think you could be pregnant?"
"NO. I am definetely not pregnant"
"Are you sure?"
"Positive"
"You know you could still be pregnant even if you got a period?"
Minor internal mind explosion.
"Did you hear me? Sometimes people get a period even when they are pregnant."
"Gimme that cup"
Scramble to the rest room.
A delicate activity later,
I am in the little room again with the two doctors, worrying my brain out.
1. God Lord, what if I am pregnant?
2. Good Lord, WHAT IF I AM PREGNANT?
3. I don't feel pregnant.
4. Can we get away with it? Could we get married in court now, have the baby and then follow it up with a huge party after?
5. Do I now have an excuse to pig out on chocolates?
6. What the heck? How the heck can I be pregnant? I don't feel pregnant.
Sr. Doc: "Me. We are going to do an EKG on you. So lift your shirt."
"What? Oh ok"
7. Geez. I wonder If you get married after conception, is the baby still illegitimate?
8. Can I have baby (omg!!!) in August and then have wedding in Nov?
9. Bloody bloody bloody heck.
"So ME"
Sr. Doc and Jr. Doc pull their chair closer, electrode thingies have been taken off chest, have been propped up on chair.
"So Me, you have, what seems to be a heart block."
"A what?"
"A heart block. We want to make sure, so I am referring you to a cardiologist, who's going to fit you in with a holter monitor so we can confirm the type."
"Oh"
"Look. a heart block is just a mumble mumble mumble."
"Really. uhm...but am I pregnant?"
"No. no. it was negative."
So, that's what was causing the dizziness.
I went back to work and googled it up. Either I have the consistuency of an athelete or a v. old person. But eitherway I am not pregnant.
And I wonder if I can use this to get more vacation time?

Yikes! That SOUNDS scary, but you seem much calmer about that than the idea that you might be pregnant, so maybe it's not so bad. I'll have to hit the Google myself!
Thanks for going to the doctor. We were worried and what was happening to you is NOT normal!
...take care me...don't work out too much athlete...
I think getting pregnant would've been less more scary than heart block?
Hope you you get that thingie sorted out soon.
So glad you went promptly to the dr--am going to go google heart blocks and see how serious that is, because like sayre said, it does sound scary!
shit.. doesn't a heart block seem just as scary, if not more so?
That sounds terribly scary, ME! Need to wiki it. How are you? Is the Boy dealing with this well?
To answer question 7, I'm pretty sure that even if you tie the knot seconds before the baby is born, it is still legitimate. Though I thought only millionares had to worry about that these days, what with inheritance and all...
When is your appointment with the cardiologist? It's a good thing you went to get it checked out.
Take care,
M.L.
You have a what?!?!
From my understanding first degree heart blocks are not unheard of in young females. My best friend has one which she has lived with since her early 20's. None the less it's still scary hearing the words "heart" and "block" together.
No offense to Mr J but the thought of telling my parents that I was pregnant before the wedding is enough to make me want to pass out.
hugs, hope you're ok! let us know what happens! hugs again!
Just read the link you have on heart blocks! Not as scary as first read, but still more scary than being pregnant! Does that mean a pacemaker or something like that?
You guys, it's really not that serious as it sounds, atleast I hope not. Anyhow, it's like Mint says, the heart + block thing makes it sounds petrifying...
Hillgrandmom - I hope you are doing better now. I was thinking and praying for you the other day.
Beks - hugs to you too...hope your travels are going great.
Mint - That's what I have been hearing too...that it's not uncommon.
Paperback - :)
M.L - oooh thanks for clarfying that. It was just something I was thinking about. You never know..the boy could have some ancient rich relative who insisted on legitimate child for inheritance
Akkare - not so scary actually, I was bemused. I think it has to do with the how invincible we think we are when we are young or maybe its just me.
fireflies, mr.j - really nothing as scary as pre-wedding pregnancy, i think.
me - thanks :)
girlysmack, sayre - I know. I am glad I went to :)
