Things...they are a changing
At work, they are.
Background first: Every Monday morning, I am roped into bigcorp's far away division's marketing staff meeting that yields no tangible tasks for me but takes up an hour and a half of my time.
This is one of those calls, I usually put on speaker, press the mute button, continue with my other tasks, but still have to listen wholly because sometimes the talking does yield changes in the directions of my special project.
At which point, I jump in, protest vociferously, shoot out emails with facts to back protest, and then go back to mute because the whole meeting is so democratic everybody just accepts my protests or plans another meeting to discuss my pro.
For some time now, I have questioned the validity of my presence in these meetings.
What the heck are they about? What do I get out of it? And what do i contribute ?
The group I conference with, have no direct bearing with my work. But my new boss wants me on the call. And that's that.
That's the background.
This Monday the call went on as usual.
Some outrageous idea regarding my project was put forward by Marketing team's boss who wouldn't listen to my protests.
On Tuesday, the faraway division's marketing team is gone!
I mean, literallly gone.
The whole division was axed.
The boss was fired.
The team was reassigned.
Approvals in BigCorps take forever and are rerouted endlessly. But firings happen in the blink of an eye.
How strangely weird.
"Should I be worried about my job?"I asked my project boss.
"No, you do a good job and besides, you are too far down the ladder for anybody to care about."
Ah. The joy of being an invisible underling.

Creepy!
Came by your blog from your comment on Akkare's blog. The usual hop-skip-jump!
Hope you're having fun planning your wedding. And do enjoy it. The whole wedding period was such a haze.. but I still remember the nice feeling with friends, relatives and celebrations.
Ok..so none of this is relevant to this post.. but whatever.
Pea, I have been skip-hoping to your blog too :) I think now, I am getting more used and relaxed about the whole wedding thing.
Beks - I know. very strange
