The day after

So after I told my supremely unpredictable mom about the supremely unchristian, unIndian boy,
I feel a bit anticlimaxed out.
All that tension,
All that worry
and all she asked was "when? how soon"
There was no euphoria,
Just a small little feeling of tiny joy
And then an enormous wall of fear hit me at the thought that I have another parent who's still in the dark.
A parent who has to be told, who made me promise that I would only bring a nice Christian, Malayalee boy.
So I called the Annmol, the ultra cool sister of mine,
who doesn't see what the big deal is.
And I hear my mother's voice in the background.
"Annmol, tell her not to worry. She's going to lose her hair. Nobody likes a bald bride."
Is this really happening?

Bald bride...hilarious. Your mum is so funny.

Well, she said not to worry, so DON'T WORRY.

Now that your mum knows, it's a done deal.

Ooh, I'm so excited!!!!

Hugs,
M.L.

the temptation to be supremely predictable Mallu Ammachy and try to guess who this guy is extremely beguiling. But shall desist!

it never ceases to amaze me..how is it that you are from a mallu christian family, youve written abt ur "boy" on the internet and ur folks still dont know abt him ?? Either your entire family, friends , relatives, malayalee clan and the lady next door havent a clue abt computers/internet or ur folks already know and are waiting for u to say something direct!! So which one is it?? or is there some other fantastic explanation for the whole scenario??

Two things

Firstly, am hugely pleased that your mom is telling you not to worry, which means that she has now taken over the job of soothing your father once he's told.

Secondly how is Suemamma going to guess who the Boy is?

YAY! Am so glad for you!

HAs he told his folks yet?

Can I get a chorus of "I Told You So?"

Yeah, we told you so.

Anti climatic? Maybe so...but much better than you imagined.

I'm so happy for you Me. This has got to be a tremendous weight off your shoulders, but scary at the same time b/c you don't know how your dad is going to react.

I'll be thinking of you.

What would we do without mom?

Dad may pout at first because things didn't go according to the great Mallu Book of Conduct. Or, he may leave you completely speechless and say "when's the wedding?"

Are we invited to the wedding? I already told you that I'm pretty sure we may be related. : )

Not to rain on your parade or anything.....but you are like a 120% sure you both are getting hitched, aren't you? Because, though initialy apprehensive, my mallu folks warmed up to my german man, and have been eagerly waiting for us to announce the date.

I still can't bring myself to tell them that we broke up last year :(

best wishes,
