We talk, we really do

“Nobody visits my blog or leaves comments on it, boyfriend” I moan into tiny cell phone (which blush blush, I am seriously thinking of bejewelling with pink stones a la Carrie Bradshaw style) while flipping through my new Vogue.

I love that I subscribe to VOGUE and will shamelessly try to drop that into any conversation with strangers.

“Oh, that’s sad. You know what, … hold on. $3.56, Anything else I can get for you today? Hold on.” Boyfriend mumbles into his cell phone 70 miles away in college town while trying to help customer (who I am sure is the old lady with bad teeth and serious addiction to playing scratch lottery). Boyfriend’s part time thing is helping out at local gas station.

“Asian at gas station, can you get any more stereotypical than that” says GayJ, redheadwhiteskin friend’s roommate. Gay J is gay, tall, really well built, has killed animals and cooked their flesh in the open wild over campfire. He is also a vegetarian, a die hard Midwestern democrat and will be joining the Peace Corps soon. He was first called Gay J to distinguish him from another J who has since disappeared but the title remains. I think I call him that in my head because I very mildly lust after his body. His mind though, is nothing compared to Boyfriend’s.

Boyfriend is still talking to customer. I am still flipping thru VOGUE. Jennifer Aniston is too skinny.

Boyfriend is back: “You know what, you haven’t enabled the comments, that’s why people don’t leave comments...Hi what can I get for you?” Boyfriend is gone.

Talking to boyfriend on cell phone gives me a headache. A 15 minute cell phone call only yields 5 minute conversation.

His 3 jobs, full time school, interviewing for full time real job and upcoming graduation can do that to an otherwise loving couple's conversation.

I should make allowances. So I patiently hang on the phone, flipping thru Vogue and make mental choices of which of my Target/Kohl’s/Maurices outfit will make me look like how Vogue tells me I should look like this Spring.

Enable comments. I should look into that.
