I was driving to work when NPR informed me of how a Dubai-based company is bidding to take over shipping operations at six major seaports in the United States. And Bush is ok with that.
Interesting. I grew up in Dubai and it is one of those quasi - democractic places where economic progress is valued and adoption of Western practices makes good market sense. So I am not overtly worried. I think Dubai values its economy too much to let anything untoward happen.

What is interesting is how they say Dubai and not United Arab Emirates. I wonder in today's world where the war on terrorism has transcended to the long war, would it make better PR sense to drop the Arab word from the U.A.E?
Yes, yes, we must not bend to the uneducated and those that generalize but really aren't they the ones that drive the economy? And so should a country like the U.A.E, that is vying for a legitimate place in the global economic market, restrict its potential because of the dreaded "Arab" word?
